By special request, this week we’d like to briefly discuss what to do when you have a character, but need to know them better. This will be useful for those of you entering NaNoWriMo or FADA in the coming weeks.

2. Say It Out Loud

- If you are stuck, remember that in order for there to be a story, your character must want something (even if that something is to go home (Sam in Lord of the Rings) or to be left alone (Squidward from SpongeBob)).
- Character can be static*,* which means they do not undergo significant changes in character/beliefs (Superman in the old films continues to believe in doing the right thing and saving people and does not change this view), or dynamic, which means they undergo an important change in character/beliefs (Spider-Man learns responsibility)
- Should go without saying, but characters have flaws. When unsure of how to proceed, make your character do something terrible then justify it.
